Becoming a video game beta tester is a very exciting job because you get to try out all the new games before people even hear about them. However, despite what you may think, you can't just become a video game beta tester by being an avid gamer. You have to work for the position. The following are a few tips to help you get started to this very fun and lucrative career choice.

Video Game Testing is a Serious Job

The reason why you aren't qualified to be a beta game tester just because you're an avid gamer is because most gamers wouldn't take the job seriously. Video game testing is a very serious job, however, and you must treat it as such. You can build a very solid career by testing new video games, and you can make a lot of money. But you have to take it seriously. If you do get a chance to become a video game tester, make sure you give it your all because you can bet there are thousands if not millions of people willing to take your place.

Be Ready for the Game Tester Workload

If you think that testing games is nothing more than lounging on the couch playing games and eating chips all day, you are sadly mistaken. As a beta game tester, you will have games assigned to you and you will have to meet specific deadlines in reporting back about those games. This involves testing the game under certain criteria and then accurately expressing your review so that the game developers can fix whatever needs fixing.

Once you get your mind right about how serious a job beta game testing is, it's time to start looking for an actual job.

Don't Look for Beta Game Tester Ads

If you've been scouring the internet and even your local newspaper for ads for game testers, you are going to be disappointed because those ads don't exist. Can you imagine the volume of calls an ad like that would garner? The fact is, game developers don't need to advertise for beta video game testing jobs. That's because the people who really want to test games contact them.

So if you want to be a beta video game tester, and you want to sample games before the general public even finds out about them, then you have to contact developers and convince them to hire you. You need to tell them why you would be an excellent choice, and you also have to convince them that you are the best game player they've ever seen. Basically, your job is to convince them that you are the perfect person for the job so that they have the inability to turn you down.

Once you start looking at video game beta testing as a real job, and you start pursuing developers instead of waiting for them to come to you, you will fare better than most others out there vying for the same position. Not everyone gets to be a beta tester, but with enough dedication and effort, the coveted position could be yours.
