The Gap, Inc. has 3100 stores under four different names you will recognize-Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy and Piperlime. When you are applying for jobs, there are different categories of jobs and they are all posted online. Whether it is for headquarters, stores, distribution centers or the call centers, you still have to go through the same online procedures.

You go to the job search page on the Gap website and then the positions are broken down by brand or function. You can narrow your search parameters to find the positions you are interested in. Many of the independent brands have their own websites with their own online application and job search web pages. The way you find those job applications and searches is to go to the name of the brand, then .gap, then .com, (for example, www.oldnavy.gap.com). To apply for a job with the GAP stores, you need to:

Fill out the Gap application form.

Submit a proper resume that list job qualifications, education, work history and any special skills.

Plan on a personal interview. Human resources will call you in a few days to set up an interview at a local store. Don't get impatient-they have thousands of people that apply daily.

Know that once you get the call, you are half way through the process of landing a job with GAP or their brand names.

Dress business casual-they don't recommend a suit and tie; instead they want you to be comfortable. (This is so they can see how you normally dress, it wouldn't hurt to wear GAP clothing, or the brand you are applying for).

Be flexible with the hours they can schedule you. When this question comes up, don't limit yourself, because the stores are often open 7 days a week, morning and evenings. Those that are the most flexible will increase their chances of getting hired.

Be yourself during the interview, and be on time, mind your manners, smile and be personable. Remember, they are judging you based on how they think you will treat their customers.

Wait to hear when you will start and other details. Don't harass the interviewer for several days, they may have a lot of other interviews lined up and they may be busy with other corporate business. They will call you as soon as the decision has been made.
